I really enjoyed reading this as I am a fan of the film, and liked the insight the book gave on both characters from Davidage to the Drac he named Jerry and how they were first enemies to surviving together in the situation they were in.

For the most part, it was a lot like the novel, I think.

I saw the movie many years ago. In restricting himself to an individual, Longyear is able to explore how propaganda and misunderstanding allows one person to develop such a distorted view of the enemy.

I’d take a guess that longyeag updated variant on the British version is what you are talking about. Like some of the other entries in this anthology, Enemy Mine feels like a prototype that defines the mould for an entire subgenre of science fiction.

I was delighted to read it again, but worried that it would not live mkne to the hype I’d given it. I read the original page version. Much of the short story existed in the pages in slightly different contexts sometimes, but making the same points. It was true then, and it is true now.

One thing that bothered me a bit has been seeing Zammis a bit forgotten in the background in the end, I would have loved to have seen him more developted. For those who like this genre? This is a story of how two sworn enemies are forced to work together to survive, and thus, become the best of friends, even family.

It’s a great read. I almost cried twice in the first 40 pages and I’m not really a crier. Does anyone know what the original ending was? Loved them both to be honest, I can see why the author took a path and the movie another, it was interesting to see such differences.

You’ve have seen two characters grow and develop, finding a common ground and showing that peace lnogyear a chance Enemy mine uses the Zammis lngyear he, in effect, replaces his parent, and is used as a foil to show Davidge’s development as a character.

The only part that is the same is they both end on the same final scene, which is him telling the Drac council of Zammis lineage. I had heard that the story was much better and that the movie mangled it a bit plus there were production problems. As I suspected, because I saw the movie 30years ago, the book is very good.
